The Marriage Announcement Index covers announcements placed in the Republican Standard (R.S.) and Genius of Liberty (G.L.) from the mid to late 1800s. The index was originally typed onto individual note cards, which have now been transcribed.
This database typically includes the names of the people being married, their residences, the date of their marriage, and the publication information for the announcement. Some extraneous information, like the place of the couple’s marriage, is occasionally recorded. In the Pennsylvania Room, the index is typically used to locate the notices on microfilm.
Two versions of the database have been produced. One is sorted by the groom’s surname, while the other is sorted by the bride’s surname.
